  • Architecture and Urban Design Professor and Architect Thom Mayne has been chosen to design a new Cornell University building that is to rise on Roosevelt Island in New York. The campus, which is a partnership with the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, is expected to cost more than $2 billion and feature about 10 structures. Click here for the LA Times article.

  • Introducing the Center for the Art of Performance, formerly UCLA Live

    The UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture today announces the creation of the Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA (CAP UCLA), an evolution from UCLA Live. The public performance arm of the university, CAP UCLA launches with a new visual identity, new community collaborations and artist initiatives, and a 2012–13 season that returns international theater to the program.

  • Professor of World Arts and Cultures and director of opera, theatre and film, Peter Sellars was honored at the Opera News Awards on April 29, 2012 in New York. Sellars accepted a special award, describing opera as "the deep end of the pool, where we get real." Click here for the LA Times article.

  • UCLA Music Choral Outreach Program wins the grand prize in Zipcar’s "Students With Drive" contest. Last Wednesday, the program won a grand prize of $25,000, and on Monday, they were presented with an award by the vice president of Zipcar, Dan Grossman. The money is split into portions that include $5,000 in Zipcar transportation credit, $10,000 in UCLA scholarships and $10,000 in cash to go toward next year’s outreach program.   • KCET-TV will feature esteemed UCLA music and ethnomusicology professor and jazz legend Kenny Burrell on a special program celebrating his life and career Thursday, March 8 at 9 p.m. “Kenny Burrell: Jazz Master and Mentor” is a 90-minute concert documentary produced at UCLA. (3/6/2012)
