Reflection on Action: UCLA’s Engagement in Urban Schools and Communities
On June 2, 2007, ArtsBridge co-sponsored a path-breaking symposium with the Teacher Education Program/Center X, the Community Scholars Program, the School of Public Affairs, the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, and the School of the Arts and Architecture. The goal of the symposium was to gather, reflect, and spark connections to better advance our common goals of quality education and social justice. The symposium highlighted community learning research with urban schools and spaces by graduate and undergraduate UCLA students, classroom teachers, school administrators, youth, parents, and other community leaders.
The event was graced by the vision of our esteemed keynote speaker: The honorable Karen Bass, Majority Leader and Assembly Member 47th District and Majority Leader.
ArtsBridge contributors included the 2006-2007 ArtsBridge Scholars and leaders in arts education from Dorsey High School, Jordan High School, Culver City High School, Millikan Middle School, Carver Middle School, John Muir Middle School, the Watts Towers Arts Center, the William Grant Still Art Center, the Dunbar Community Economic Development Corporation, and the Media Aid Center.
